The City of Newport News’ sixth annual One City Marathon takes place Sunday and with related events all weekend long there are fun activities for runners and non-runners.
Marathon Weekend begins with a free, two-day Health & Wellness Expo presented by Riverside Health System. Residents and visitors can stop by the Holiday Inn Newport News on Friday from 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. or Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. to find a variety of fitness and nutrition related vendors, preventative health information, interactive games and training evaluations. Runners can pick up their bibs at the expo.
All races – marathon, marathon relay, half marathon, 8K and Nautical Mile Fun Run – take place on Sunday. The marathon and relay begin at 7:00 a.m. at Newport News Park; the half marathon begins at 7:00 a.m. at Menchville High School; and the 8K and Nautical Mile begin in the parking lot of City Hall in downtown Newport News at 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. respectively. Online race registration ends tomorrow, Feb. 25, but runners can also register at the Health & Wellness Expo and at the start line of each race.
And from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, the One City One Celebration takes place at the Super Block near the finish line of the races in downtown Newport News and is open to everyone, whether participating in a race or not. Enjoy music, food, runner relaxation areas, games and more.
About the Newport News One City Marathon:
Presented by Newport News Shipbuilding, the sixth annual Newport News One City Marathon takes place Sunday, March 1, 2020. The marathon course runs the entire 26-mile length of the city, with Newport News Park as the setting for the start of the race and the Victory Arch in downtown serving as the finish line. Along the way, the certified course takes runners past various cultural amenities, educational institutions, businesses and neighborhoods. In addition to the marathon, which also offers a relay option, there is the BayPort Credit Union Half Marathon, the Maritime 8K Run/Walk presented by Optima Health, and a Nautical Mile Kids Fun Run. Marathon weekend (February 28 - March 1, 2020) also includes a Health & Wellness Expo presented by Riverside Health System.
