Crime Line – Report an Anonymous Tip

Newport News Crime Line – Week of September 9th, 2019


I’m MPO Brandon Maynard  The Newport News Police Department needs your help to solve a recent bank robbery.

On September 9th, 2019 at 3:11 PM Newport News Communications received a call of a hold-up alarm at the SunTrust Bank, located in the 11800 block of Canon Boulevard. The call was immediately upgraded to a bank robbery.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with one of the clerks who stated an unknown white male with a scruffy beard, approximately 5’5" tall, wearing a white shirt, and a blue/grey baseball cap entered the bank, passed a note demanding money. The male only implied he had a firearm. He took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the bank. There were no reported injuries from this incident.

After further investigation, the subject was identified as 49 year-old Paul Richard Zimeras. Warrants were obtained on Mr. Zimeras for Robbery and Abduction.
