City Announces BayPort Credit Union NlightN Event Series
Holiday experiences take place from one end of the city to the other
Newport News, Va., – From Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day, citizens and visitors in Newport News will experience the holidays in a new way with the BayPort Credit Union NlightN Holiday Event Series. Pronounced “enlighten,” this new series includes three main events – the classic Celebration in Lights at Newport News Park, the re-themed Lights at the Fountain at City Center, and the all new ARTech Lights at Brooks Crossing – along with additional smaller events throughout the city.
“We are appreciative that BayPort has partnered with us again this year to spread holiday cheer in Newport News,” said City Manager Cindy Rohlf. “With their generous corporate support, the BayPort Credit Union NlightN Holiday Event Series will ‘enlighten’ Newport News and provide residents and visitors alike with the sights and sounds of the season through lively and entertaining events across the city.”

The BayPort Credit Union NlightN Holiday Event Series includes the following three main special events along with additional activities and engagements:
Celebration in Lights
November 28, 2019 – January 1, 2020, 5:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. nightly
Newport News Park; $15 per car, $75 per bus
Celebration in Lights is two miles of dazzling holiday light displays set along the beautiful woods and waterways at Newport News Park. Now in its 27th season, the event has grown each year and has over million lights creating holiday and fanciful scenes. This year we have added new lighting effects to create even more holiday magic. Lights at the Fountain
Nightly light show, December 7 – 31, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Fountainside Festivals – December 7 & 14, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
City Center at Oyster Point; free admission, free parking
Lights at the Fountain is a holiday experience of lights, decorations, and magical falling snow set to music around the City Center at Oyster Point five-acre fountain plaza. Delighting all ages is a special ten-minute synchronized light show, held twice each hour during the evening, incorporating a 42’ intelligent, color/pattern changing tree and coordinated lights around the fountain along with a festive soundtrack. On December 7 and 14, Fountainside Festivals will fill City Center with holiday entertainment, a holiday market, carnival games, food vendors, and children’s activities. Bring your camera for photos with Santa and be sure to indulge in the food and beverage specials in the “Jingle and Mingle” lounges at nearby restaurants. February 7, 3:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Brooks Crossing; free admission, free parking
A brand new experience comes to Brooks Crossing in the Southeast Community with the innovative ARTech Lights. At the heart of the event is a giant, animated, lighted double helix art installation. Its illumination with be celebrated with hands-on “Techtivities,” food and beverage vendors, a fire pit, a “silent disco,” a skating rink, fire performers, and a DJ. Denbigh Community Center, December 6-31
New this year, the Denbigh Community Center is being transformed into a living snow globe to include murals, trees, lights, reindeer, and more, all photo ready. Free family films on the evenings of December 6 & 20 with a hot chocolate bar and popcorn, and children’s matinees movies with make-and-take crafts (details to come).
Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center, December 13, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
In its 10th year, the goal is to bring new experiences and holiday cheer to the children of the community. The facility is transformed into a winter wonderland. Enjoy crafts, games, treats, and so much more during this building-wide celebration.
